One must of course balance using free content with the value you bring to the world. It is your voice which you want to display through your web site. Using content written by others limits the use of your own voice.
The Creative Commons is a license allowing for reuse of material (content) in ways which are both beneficiary to the developer of that content, and make use of the viral nature of digitized content to help spread that content. The Creative Commons license requires attribution to the author, helping to spread the fame of the author.
