Improved methods for editing content on a Drupal site

Like a lot of content management systems, a Drupal user ends up editing their content in a TextArea in a web browser. While this is convenient it's really a throwback to dumb editors of the 1980's like 'vi'. If you don't know what I mean by 'vi' count yourself lucky.
