Searching for a solution to Apple's stupid iTunes policy on uploading files from iPod or iPhone or iPad brought me to PhotoTransferApp. They say "Photo Transfer App allows you to easily download photos and videos from your iPhone to your computer as well as exchange photos from and to your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Transfer over WiFi, no cables or extra software required."
The app is pretty simple to use. There are tabs to select photos and videos, "PC", and "Device". The select photo tab lets you browse your camera roll, and you can select up to 10 photos or videos to make available for transfer. Not sure why they limit it to 10 selections, but whatever.
Selecting the PC tab you're given a URL and told "To download these photos to your computer go to this address using your computers web browser." Simply type in the URL to your browser, that's it. When you do the browser shows a list of the images that were selected, and you can download them one at a time. The "PC" tab has two choices, one for sending photos and videos, the other for receiving them.
Unlike the less expensive PhotoShare (see PhotoShare enables sharing pictures between iPod, iPad, iPhone and desktop computers) this application shares both pictures and video files. When sharing a video the i-Device spends some time "preparing" the video for transfer. Preparing? Is that a way to say they're transcoding the video? If so, is there any lossage in the transcoding?
